Every now and again, life can get to be too much and you find yourself unhappy. I'm here to tell you that your feelings are valid.
As awareness about mental health increased in the year 2019, some people felt it was appropriate to invalidate the feelings of others simply because they weren't clinically "depressed". No-- you don't have to be depressed to be overwhelmed and at a standstill. Everyone has one of those days, weeks, or even months. I can admit that people use the word depressed too loosely, but at the same time not everyone who is saying they aren't okay is blaming that on depression.
YOUR. FEELINGS. MATTER.
I can attest that too many times I have told myself I have no reason to be upset because other people have it worse. I didn't want to come off as complaining, or ungrateful, so I hide my feelings. That is the worse thing you can do. You don't owe anybody an explanation as to why you're feeling a certain way ( to an extent, obviously.)
I am reclaiming my emotions. To many people, I am a shoulder, an ear, or just a hand to hold. At times that can be overwhelming and I can feel alone. So I take time away, and live for myself. It is okay to need a break. It is okay to disappear for a little bit. Whatever steps you need to take to be your best self are ok!
And if you are a person who is noticing that a person you care about is being a little distant, don't be an a**hole and make it about yourself. Respect that other person's space. There is a difference between being there for someone, and hoping someone is okay enough to deal with your bull.
Lastly, people love you and people care about you, so communicate if you can. And if you ever feel like you're not yourself, but can find the words to express your emotional state then just don't. The only person you owe something to is yourself! BECAUSE.. at the the end of the day, you are the only person that has to live with who you are for the rest of your life.
Protect your energy. Protect your state of mind. Protect your solar system.
Love,
Kayla <3
