a formal apology to khadijah james

All this time I've been saying that I want to be like Carrie Bradshaw, while simultaneously completely ignoring Khadijah James. If you don't know who Khadijah James is she is the main character of Living Single. Living Single follows a group of Black young adults living out their daily lives and careers in a Brooklyn brownstone. Khadijah is the editior-in-chief for Flavor magazine, a magazine she started all by herself. She's beautiful, tall, curvy, stylish, funny, witty, and has the finest niggas on her roster. She is THAT girl!! And how, honestly, disrespectful of me to have overlooked her. I sincerely apologize.

It is so rare to see Black women characters on tv nowadays, especially a tall non-skinny Black women be portrayed as the main character/love interest.

I don't know how I never made the connection between Carrie Bradshaw and Khadijah James. They both make entertainment literature, both live in New York City, both have a fire friend group, both are in their late 20s-early 30s, both have hella love interests, and both have a very iconic sense of style. Why oh why have I been sleeping on Khadijah James and living off of the scraps Carrie Bradshaw provided me?

Everything I have ever wanted to be is embodied by Khadijah James-- the versatility of her style, her love for literature and pop culture, and the attractiveness of her personality. I am so appreciative that her character exists. SO, forget Carrie Bradshaw, I want to be Khadijah James.
