Y'all know the drill. It's new music Thursday for you because I have a bunch of songs that I have recently added to my liked songs on Spotify. Firstly, I just have to be honest and admit that I wrote this just so I could obsess over Flo. Flo (@flolikethis) is a British R&B girl group that's frankly just amazing. They are the revival we needed for Black girl groups. I am in awe at their star power ranging from not only the music and their vocals, but their essence and style as individuals. They are just bomb all around and I am very, VERY, excited to see where they go from here. If you haven't already, because you've been living under a rock (or just don't have twitter) check out their debut single, "Cardboard Box" and their new EP, The Lead.
Aside from the magnificence that it is "Cardboard Box", please do yourself a favor and watch the music video to their song "Immature", I kid you not I watched it four times back to back it was so good. Immediately yes, tens all around. Read more about the girls and the praise they've received from other R&B girlies here.
Okay, back to our regularly scheduled programming and formatting,
ANGEL ~ Brent Faiyaz (2022)
This song is really beautiful. It sounds like the songs at the end of a sad movie where the main character her has lost everything, but there's still a hope for a brighter future. Really great song.
Ghetto Gatsby ~ Brent Faiyaz (2022)
ALICIA DEVOURED. I don't know why I'm so obsessed with her part, but I love it so much. Brent did his thing too LMAO, of course, he always does.
All Mine ~ Brent Faiyaz (2022)
Duh.
Bands ~ Shoreline Mafia ft. OhGeesy, Fenix Flexin, & Master Kato (2018)
This song is ghetto asf, but I like that. I came about this song on a day where I was tired of all the same tunes I had been listening to so I wanted to switch up the vibe. I found a random "Upbeat Hip-hop and Rap" playlist, put that on shuffle, and this song came out. It feels like it'd be in Euphoria during a party scene, help maybe it was.
Don't Slip ~ Will Ryte (2019)
Still can't believe a white man made this song. He lowkey sounds like NAV, so maybe that's why I like it. Again, I like the vibe and it sounds similar to a lot of artists I usually listen to, so it's cool I guess. I found it the same way I found the other song.
Shake it Off ~ Mariah Carrey (2005)
Yes, Mariah, yes. Taylor Swift need to give her her writing credit because I swear her song's chorus is the same thing, just sped up, but whatever.
BREAK MY SOUL ~ Beyoncé (2022)
The girls that get it, get it, the girls that don't, hate fun 🤷🏾♀️. Y'all know you wanna tap a toe, but go head and be sad in the corner the rest of us are gonna dance 💃🏾.
Honestly, Nevermind (Album)~ Drake (2022)
Yup, sure did put the whole album on here. THIS IS AN UNBIASED REVIEW!! The album was fun and I genuinely do listen to the songs off the album over and over again. Y'all already know I love Liability. Some of my other favs are:
- Falling Back
- Tie that Binds
- Sticky
Big Boss (Interlude) ~ Victoria Monét (2020)
IT NEEDS TO BE LONGER, VICTORIA! Honestly, go stream the entire Jaguar album (if you haven't already, what are you doing???)
good day ~ 21 Savage (2018)
Someone said I give 21 too much credit, and you know what maybe I do, but I genuinely enjoy his music. IT'S FUN! This song just radiates positivity and you should listen to it on your way back home from hanging out with your friends as you walk down the street and the sun sets. Or when you wake up in the morning, either way IT EATS.
Cash In, Cash Out ~ Pharrell ft. 21 Savage & Tyler, The Creator
Again, I love fun. The part where Tyler mocks an old lady is gold. "They was talking 'bout a hundred million, baby"
Surprise ~ Chole Bailey (2022)
Yet again, the R&B girlies are back! I suggest listening to this while watching the music video because Chloë brought back the music video that tells a story. Not saying she's the only person that still does this, but the girls don't do music videos anymore! Not like the Keyshia Cole ones or Rihanna in her music video for "Unfaithful". My favorite thing to do when I was younger was to go on Music Choice On Demand (shoutout Optimum, but actually no because your service highkey sucks) and watch the music videos for all the songs, so I really do miss being given music videos that actually correlate to the song and that give us dramatics or a storyline.
Conceited ~ Flo Milli (2022)
MY BITCHHHHH! "Please don't bark, CAUSE MILLI BARK BACK"
Imma start saying that.
Speaking of Black R&B girl groups another one I'd like to spotlight is Aint Afraid. They're twins and lemme just insert a picture here because I LOVE THEIR STYLE.
I found them off their Tik Tok when they were teasing their song, "Matter 2 Ya" and I immediately fell in love with the song. I also very much enjoy their song, "Always There". Both songs really hit lyrically when it comes to feeling under-appreciated in a relationship and like actions aren't being reciprocated. Both are off their most recent album Heavy Guarded Heart (2022). "Always There" especially is really good, listen to it.
F.N.F (Let's Go) ~Hitkidd, GloRilla (2022)
I know it stands for fuck n*gga free, but I also like to call it fuck n*ggas for real because fuck them FOR REAL. Anywho, this song is also ghetto as hell, but that's the point so go ahead and add it to your summer playlist. EVERYTHING TEMS, but especially
(For Broken Ears, 2020) Ice T
Higher
(If Orange Was a Place, 2021)
Crazy Tings
Found (ft. Brent Faiyaz) Vibe Out
Avoid Things
I LOVE TEMS! Yo No Soy Celoso ~ Bad Bunny (2022)
I understood this song with very limited google translate and for that I will always love it.
Anywho, that is the end of the list friends. This one is extra long, I'm realizing I haven't done one of these in MONTHS, but I just went song shopping so I had a bunch of new ones added out of nowhere. I hope you enjoy these songs because you have no choice but to listen to them, as the title instructs. If you take anything away from this let it be that you should support the new R&B girlies! There are so many of them on this list from all over the globe so you really have no choice but to fuck with them. Alright, let me know what you think. Bye for now. <3
