The weather here in New York has been all over the place, but the rainy days have given me a chance to binge some of my favorite shows and check out some interesting movies. Here's a list of some of my guilty pleasures you should check out on Netflix:
1. Mad Men
This is one of my favorite shows ever. The show takes place in the 60s and covers the lives of the men and few women in an advertising agency in New York. I don't know, but there's just something about this show that I love. It moves at a pretty slow place but everything connects and the character development is amazing. If you want a quality show where you love but also hate the characters (in a good way) then this is a show you should check out. AT first, I didn't get the purpose and I thought it was lame, but I've fallen in love. I can't put it down. It has seven seasons.
2. Scandal
Now...this show does decline in quality as the seasons progress. Despite this, the show is still addictive. The show follows Olivia Pope who is a "fixer." She saves people's reputations. Oh yeah, she's also sleeping with the President of the United States. Kinky! The first season is the shows' best season and the shortest (it's only seven episodes). Although after this season the show does fall into it's own. I have a love-hate relationship with Olivia, she just puts so much at jeopardy for a man. Nevertheless, this show is a thriller and will truly shock you at what people will do for power. The body count this show has...jeez. This show is apart of Shondaland which includes How to Get Away with Murder and Grey's Anatomy. If you liked those, you'll like this show. It has seven seasons.
3. Baby
This show is in Italian but it is worth the subtitles. You know how before when I said Mad Men was my favorite show, well I lied, this is my favorite show!! This show is so good. It's about a girl who works as an escort at night with her troubled friend. Its better than it sounds. These italian high schoolers are scandalous! My favorite character is Kara, which is weird because I rarely like the main characters of shows. But, she makes so many mistakes I just love her for being human. This show has two beautiful seasons.
4. Sister Cities
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I actually watched it for the first time about two years ago but I keep coming back to rewatch it. It's about four sisters with the same mom who are each named after the cities/states they were conceived in. The all have different dads because their mother was a crazy woman who kept sleeping with guys and having kids. They're all called back home after their mother passes away and they finally communicate with each other, something they have never done. Then they start to realize that the circumstances surrounding their mother's death are mysterious. Definitely watch if you're looking for something interesting.
5. Sex Explained
This is a very interesting documentary about all aspects of human sexuality. From childbirth, to the making of birth control, and even fertility. I randomly discovered it a few days ago and it has caught my attention. You can watch it in any order and the episodes are pretty short.
6. Alex and Katie
I have to admit, it's kinda embarrassing that I watch this show meant for kids but I can't help it. This show is about a girl named Alexa who is in high school and has cancer; her best friend Katie is there to support her while they also deal with boys, school, and being normal teenagers. For a show gripping that topic, it's pretty wholesome. This show is corny (but yes the jokes make me laugh). If you want a show that feels like Disney, and is entertaining I suggest you watch this. It has three seasons.
Now these shows had to grow on me so my advice to you is to give these shows three episodes. Just three episodes. And if you're not hooked by then you can write me and tell me that I have no taste. Alright bye!
